took quite extensive leave (16w maternity leave plus 13w STD). My daughter had life saving surgery and both of us had to recover until I was able to go back to work. She is doing amazing now and I was happy to go back as well. Contacted my manager but he barely responded to my messages about me returning to work. (He responded only to those where I cc’ed the HR). Since I’m back (last 3 days) I scheduled two catch ups and he canceled them both. Do you think my job is in jeopardy

Legally he cannot fire you. Schedule a meeting with HR immediately. Save the documentation of you trying to connect.

You also have the opportunity to go above him to his manager

like

Agree with this. It would be highly illegal for him to fire you. If you don't hear back work your way up the chain. So sorry you are experiencing this.

Sounds like a terrible leader. Is it safe to assume they didn't contact you during your leave to check in on you and your daughter?

How was your relationship before your time off?

I'm reading this book on boundaries. In the work section it says I should tell my boss that I can't work after 5 PM. Knowing that advertising work commonly goes past 5 PM...would my job be in danger if I said that?
There's not really a rule book that says I must work until the work is done even though it's an unsaid expectation. Thoughts?

I have an interview with Korn Ferry for an associate principal role and am curious about others’ experiences have been with work-life balance here. Also, I have an idea of what I should be compensated in this type of role, but any insights on how they pay compared to others would be helpful. Are you traveling during the pandemic or have client interactions been virtual? Lastly, if you are a consultant here, are you on billable hours? My current consulting role is not - so this would be new.

I love my team, but I feel like I may need to move on. I am at 70k a year and have been told time and time again that I have learned faster than anyone they have seen and am a top performer. I don’t feel like I am being compensated for that either. Any suggestions on companies and target salaries?

I’d like to “make it” here but if it means switching career to make money I’d like to get an idea to make the right job change.

Can someone please for the love of god help me figure out how I can pay less income taxes? I only make 88k and I put the 12k standard deduction but I’m still getting taxed 27% of my paychecks! I just received a verbal offer as a program manager at vp level from a US BB in London. Unfortunately the number was a round down of my current pay. I’m currently a business manager in banking and thinking to move to the program manager role as a step towards more broader opportunities in the future (COO, consulting type of roles).
Should I accept the offer?
The HR told me that there will be opportunities for promotion in the next 12 to 24 months.

Anyone deal with this before: I inherited a severely under developed team including a sr analyst who clearly was doing the bare minimum, if that. Over the last 6 months I have had to coach him and correct simple mistakes in his work and recently it got so bad that I told him he would receive a low rating in his evaluation. He lashed out, involved HR saying he doesn’t understand why, and now my review points out stuff that I would have let slide.

I'm thinking about starting something, but I want to be well versed in entrepreneurship before I do. Any recommended resources (websites, podcasts, books, etc.)? Thanks!
