I wouldn’t do that. Don’t they have an EL for you to sign and provide a CC document for you to fill out and email back?

I wouldn’t pay anyone until I read what the agreement says. That’s like a credit card company asking for payment before you even signed up for the credit card.
… I do not believe this is appropriate, but possibly may be. From what I know, we are not to keep any records of client payment information. If I collect card info over the phone, I am supposed to immediately shred that and not keep record of it on file. They either get card info every time for payment, or add/save to my software for future use. I just send a payment request using my legal software and they can pay securely that way.
The attorney may delete the text immediately and not save the picture of your card … that may be ok. But, if you are not comfortable with doing that, tell the attorney to send you an online payment request where you can enter your card info yourself, or call their office to provide the info over the phone (still a bit risky imo).
Not sure if this is common, but I’ve definitely heard of stuff like this before, and everything was totally fine. Not sure how much you vetted this person, but you can always check their reviews. I would tell them you’re more comfortable giving card info over the phone. Would help to hear their voice too maybe?
Yeah, I spoke to him and he told me to text him
