Sounds about right. I’m in industry and base caps around $150-165. Bonus target can be anywhere from 15-30% of base.
So I’m gonna have to take a pay cut. 🤦🏾♀️🤢
Thank you, this is helpful!
I just went through a very similar transition 9 YOE (3 post MBA) and the industry offers I received were between $125-$160K with a 15-20% bonus and some RSU. I turned it down mostly because I wanted to stay in consulting.
I ultimately accepted a boutique consulting offer for $200K base with 20% bonus and profit sharing (TC - $275K) and seemingly better WLB. If you’re not totally done with consulting, look around for a role that is more aligned with what you’re looking for!
Where!?

Go to healthcare tech if you don’t want to take a paycut
The last company was health tech & publicly traded but they wanted a director to make $150K max.
Which companies do you think would make the $175K (base) director or SM work?

When you say strategy and org change, from a consulting perspective are you specifically referring to “People and Org Change” practices?
Also in tech, my salary as an example is capped at $160k but my total comp is more than 2x that. Tech at more senior levels is going to be more so based on RSU.

Do you get the RSU vested and paid out as part of your total comp if the company has not yet IPO'd?
hey DM me I have a friend looking for someone with your profile. (It’s not Accenture)

Is it consulting?
If you’re interested in big pharma and technology I might know of an interesting role for you and it will pay what you are looking for - dm if interested
I indeed took the industry offer, albeit a position lower, 140 base and 15% bonus (definitely drop off of consulting)
I feel like I now want a greater comp more in line with what you mentioned... Not entirely sure where to look, thinking health tech and start up scene
It’s going to be tough in healthcare start ups - I’m finding even the commercially-oriented ones are paying 30% lower than lateral roles in consulting. plus healthcare start up equity don’t seem to pan out much.
It’s about total comp not just base salary. Just ask for 150-160 and then negotiate upwards when you start getting offers. But with bonus and options your total comp will be closer to 300-400k depending on what it is
