I agree and I’m an employee. I have a family, it’s up to me to make work friends and friends outside of work. I expect you to pay me, provide some benefits, and not be an asshole that screams at me across the office.
When you hire someone, you will often need to accomodate their personal life to avoid burnout. They have a child? They may need to leave early. Care for an elder? They may need to take them to appointments. Had a car accident? They may need disability access for their office space. At the end of the day forcing people to compartmentalise their work and life isn't healthy and you will lose great employees to firms that understand this. In these situations the employees that remain are often the worst ones. As a Manager or Senior Manager, your objective is to get the most out of your underlings and retain great talent. This is often done through motivation and empathy. If your approach still achieves those objectives then I think it's fine.
Yes and no IMO. Surface level, you are correct. It’s not your job to be your employees friends. But on the a deeper level, you will only be more successful if you can foster a relationship somewhere in the middle.
Nope not family
