Talk to some one that can help. We had a case, similar to that, except our Dr left the room, myself and 3 other assistant were trying to anesthetize an brachycephalic pet with gas, for a minor laceration repair, the dog died. I had to send a message out to the three other assistants that i wasn't their fault. Unfortunately things do happen,although some can be avoided. Never, is life a guarantee.
The best thing to do is trace your steps and work out whatever the mistake was, and then learn from it and don't make it again. People in human and animal health care should be diligent on how they are treating people and people's pets, as it does have consequences. I think if you learn from it, you will forgive yourself at some point. Sorry that you experienced that--but it is an occupational hazard. Hope you find peace soon.
Agree with this completely. You can't beat yourself up WAY too hard, but you also can't miss a valuable lesson that there is to learn here. Balancing forgiveness/acceptance for yourself while also trying to learn a lesson is tricky but that's the most important thing you can do right now. I'm really sorry for your situation though! Things like this happen but it's never ever easy.
Type here you surly didn’t mean for it to happen,unfortunately it did but your heart is in the right place! Learn from this incident and be more aware an teach others around you ! It’s a very hard situation to except and grow from but you can and you will don’t let guilt rob you of your love in this field ,animal care has changed so much since I worked as veterinary technician! I left the field for a different career an wish I hadn’t! Be confident continue to better yourself!
I know how tough this is because we truly do care for out patients. Forgive yourself. Realize you are human and you make mistakes. Really push yourself to understand what you can do better for the future but you can't hold onto that because it will bring you down
