Pick one thing to focus on and give it your undivided attention. It looks like you’re trying to do 3 things at once - 1. Bschool 2. Work full time 3. Move to SD
I would recommend focus on a full time MBA program. Attend Sloan as a full time MBA student. You’ll get more out of it and really enjoy the MBA experience.
SD is full of old folks so don’t be in rush to move there.
I attended bschool full time and loved the experience. Some of my other MBA friends went part time and didn’t have the true and full bschool experience.
Also keep in mind that some companies/recruiters only hire full time MBAs for certain positions. So if you’re going to do a program at Sloan then your best move is to go full time in the near future once you’ve figured out your finances.
I’d do the Fully Employed MBA program at UCLA Anderson. Easy enough commute (if you do the Saturday program or hybrid schedule), highly rated, still have access to campus recruiting and programming.
Rising Star
USC also has a part-time MBA program in Orange county, which would reduce the commute.
OP when you say Sloan’s online MBA, I think you mean it’s Executive MBA program. It’s okay to attend if you’re firm is footing the bill completely, but I wouldn’t pay out of pocket with that price tag. You’d pretty much being paying to put MIT on your CV.

Sloan has online MBA program? 😲
Yeah, they do. I was restricting to top 10 B schools.
OP if you really want to live in San Diego then I honestly don't see any issue with going to a 'lower ranked' MBA in San Diego. Since you want to live in that area, many of the large San Diego firms (Qualcomm, Teradata, etc) I'm sure recruit on-campus for, as an example, UCSD's MBA, even if it is not highly rated nationally. Also if you consider yourself a really good candidate for elite MBAs you may get scholarship money to a 'lower rated' MBA.
I also REALLY want to move to San Diego and am thinking of potentially doing something similar or just trying to find a job without MBA.
At second glance this advice may not be great. But I am also looking in San Diego
Hi! What did you do finally? Also curious, what are the criteria for ZS to fully sponsor the part-time MBA?
