It depends on your personal beliefs. I know people who thought it was horrible for me to work at an oil or chemical client because of the environment. I had some concerns but didnt stop me. I also worked for an alcohol client with no issue. I would however not work for a tobacco client because their product exists for no other reason than to make people addicts and their product kills millions of their customers each year.

Umm. Would you work for alcohol companies that makes ppl alcoholics?
Would you work for companies like coke and Pepsi that cause diabetes
Would you work for processed food companies that cause cancer and Alzheimer’s
Would you work for a company like Accenture that overworks ppl and causes chronic stress
What you are asking is not a good question imo. Pls fix
I think it’s a great question. The answers will vary, based on the causes that are personal to each of us. But I think it’s a great question to ask ourselves regularly.
Pro
Absolutely not.
Well people do rush to work at McKinsey
Truthfully? Everything has a price.
If they paid me $10M/yr to work for them I would

I’ll do it for 400k👀
Oil & gas has entered the chat
Sure, no one makes people smoke/vape/chew. These companies are forced to pay literally billions of dollars to prevent children from picking up these habits in the first place. I don’t be grudge anyone there vices when they go into it eyes wide open.
Separate from the personal decision of whether or not to work for a tobacco organization, your statement is wildly ignorant.
Advertisements taught boomers that smoking was good for them/no negative side effects. Now many people are legitimately addicted, can’t quit, and are suffering and aspirating to death. To say smokers went “into it eyes wide open” is ridiculous. It is not the same as you having a soda or a vice without an addictive chemical (many).

Yes like consulting firms are saints 🙄

OP, if you were forced to consult for company X, would you refuse?
Rising Star
I would and already have refused consulting work for a big tobacco client.
Chief
You work at Accenture where they make their clients sick!!
If you pay me enough and 40hrs a week
So I got asked to work for a client that while they don’t sell pot, they essentially sell everything else that you might need to go with your pot. I don’t do pot but could care less what other people choose to do. We all have our vices. Something is going to kill all of us.
Chief
“Do pot”
No
Does working for companies like Philip Morris reduce exit opportunities?
Definitely not!
What about companies that make consumer goods cheaply by underpaying workers in third world countries? Tobacco users make their own choice, as do people who eat artery clogging fast food.
