Getting subs is darned near impossible in my district because people are unwilling to tolerate (rightfully so) the students’ disrespect and negative behaviors and the administrators’ lack of discipline policy enforcement and total lack of respect for the subs. The district uses a platform to fill positions, but because subs know which schools in the district have weak administrative teams (6 administrators at my middle school), they refuse jobs there. Because 25% of our student population is identified as special education, we have a large group of support staff who are supposed to assist CORE subject, elective, and special education teachers with meeting those students’ IEPs and 504s. Administrators started using the facilitators as substitutes without the pay upgrade (subs make more;-0), and the special education students and their teachers were left to fend for themselves. This led to issues for students and teachers, so the school hired PERMANENT subs who begin at the beginning of the school year. This is by no means a “fixes all” solution, but it is a start because on any given day five or more teachers are out because ours is a high stress/high illness building. Now teachers and facilitators don’t worry about being out of IEP/504 compliance EVERY day, but I’ve NEVER seen an administrator substitute in a class in the 25 years I’ve been here.
That is horrible! Yeah our daycare is in upper Michigan. We just had head lice and everything fabric was washed as well as our normal cleaning. We also clean certain toys every day at nap time although I think sometimes that doesn't get done.

Unfortunately this is a pretty common practice. Weird how during covid they didn’t want a sniffle around but now they let you work with anything

So true!
Call your union rep....I would have told her that you appreciate her dilemma, however, you were still calling in, as you were too sick to come to work and that you appreciate her understanding. Sick days are part of your employee benefits. By you going to work sick you put others at risk! I highly doubt you will get fired, since all school districts across the US are in urgent need of staff. Stand your ground!!
I work at a daycare in Michigan so nope no union 😑. That would be great.
No :( How are we supposed to take care of ourselves then? Unfortunately, this industry assumes you’ll never be out so we overwork just with that alone. While I get the logistics of needing you in, unless you Always call out, it should be honored instead of guilt tripped
It's hard because everywhere is so short staffed.
No
I appreciate that.

Our admin is pretty supportive. A lot of our EAs are put into sub if we don't get a sub. If all the EAs are being used and there are no subs, the teachers absorb classes for extra pay
I wish I would have gotten paid extra for coming in 😅.
I would work on your sickness. If you say you are vomiting and have a diarrhea they will find a sub🤢.
It's hard because I don't want to ever lie . But maybe I should have really talked about my symptoms more
