Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

OP, I know how awful it feels - I’ve been made redundant before. I took it personally, even though I’d been having success.
I’m not saying you should do what I did, but my boyfriend and I sadly and mutually split at the same time and I thought, well, f this, and went to Argentina and Peru to eat and think. I trekked with some amazing guys from America and Singapore, went home, and started applying for jobs overseas. This was the beginning of an international career that led me to the best place I’ve ever worked (BCG).
The braindead cliches have validity - I couldn’t see it at the time, but it was an awful outcome that set me on a path to a life I wanted.
Take the time to grieve. It sucks. But now you can do something else, and there’s much to choose from...
Big fan of international career
COBRA is really important too! In your package, you should ask for:
- severance (salary and pro-rated bonus...this ultimately depends on what's written in their policy. Ask to see the policy and for the calculation breakdown)
- COBRA (health insurance coverage and employer co-payment)
- All fringe benefits to be cashed out (eg. PTO)
- All of the above paid in the normal payroll cycles instead of a lump sum (eg if you get 3 months severance, then you get paid per usual over the next three months. This extends your COBRA payments and coverage to the same period)
- the right to say on your resume that you're employed with the firm, as you start looking for a new job
Feel free to DM with questions.
Listen to this person. They know what they are talking about.
Write here what field you were in/skills, plenty of firms hiring
I kinda envy you, but I understand it sucks. Sorry. It’s an opportunity to start fresh though- Hope you got a package

OP - try to get things documented in case they put a lot off pressure or make something up to fire you.
Hang in there OP!
My heart goes out to you...It will work out. I know it doesn’t seem like it now but you will get through this. You will be stronger and wiser. You will be able to use this experience to help someone else one day..
Yeah it goes without saying that most of us would happily refer you, including me. I work for AFS and we’re desperate for hires right now. My project really needs more resources, so lmk what your skills are and I’ll happily either refer you to Accenture in general or directly to my project if there’s a match.
AFS5 I’m not currently looking but that kind of work is right up my alley. Have tons of SQL, Alteryx, VBA, Excel, Tableau experience mixed in with federal FM knowledge. Would be possibly interested in chatting in a couple months if you’re interested
Manager 6 is lying!
Nope. It really happened. I was the only one they let go.
Does this sound fishy to anyone else? Why ask you to resign if they are about to lay you off? The whole purpose would be to save the firm money by not providing a severance package. Not sure how US unemployment works but if you resign you usually don’t qualify for unemployment unless you have very specific reasons (toxic workplace etc...) If it’s a business decision then the person should give you a strong recommendation regardless, as long as your performance warrants it. Get the recommendation in writing now.
I would look for a job in the meantime and wait for the layoff and severance package.
