Hi fishes,
Any guess how many people are laid off from Publicis sapient in past few days? Really scared for my future as I'm also under probation period and deeply regret for my choice of joining this firm...I don't understand why were they recruiting peeps when they were short of projects. Publicis Sapient
Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

If you have cash that you want to invest. Please consider Treasury Series I Savings Bond (Electronic). Interest is 7.12% right now. While it's not guaranteed that the 7.12% will remain until next year, it's still a good deal.
My SO and I just invested 20k (10k max per person even married).

OP, I know how awful it feels - I’ve been made redundant before. I took it personally, even though I’d been having success.
I’m not saying you should do what I did, but my boyfriend and I sadly and mutually split at the same time and I thought, well, f this, and went to Argentina and Peru to eat and think. I trekked with some amazing guys from America and Singapore, went home, and started applying for jobs overseas. This was the beginning of an international career that led me to the best place I’ve ever worked (BCG).
The braindead cliches have validity - I couldn’t see it at the time, but it was an awful outcome that set me on a path to a life I wanted.
Take the time to grieve. It sucks. But now you can do something else, and there’s much to choose from...
Big fan of international career
COBRA is really important too! In your package, you should ask for:
- severance (salary and pro-rated bonus...this ultimately depends on what's written in their policy. Ask to see the policy and for the calculation breakdown)
- COBRA (health insurance coverage and employer co-payment)
- All fringe benefits to be cashed out (eg. PTO)
- All of the above paid in the normal payroll cycles instead of a lump sum (eg if you get 3 months severance, then you get paid per usual over the next three months. This extends your COBRA payments and coverage to the same period)
- the right to say on your resume that you're employed with the firm, as you start looking for a new job
Feel free to DM with questions.
Listen to this person. They know what they are talking about.
Good luck OP! The economy is still strong. You will find a job in no time.
OP, Happy to refer (to EY)
Dude... that’s rough. I was laid off once as well, actually I was laid off two hours after I had just purchased an engagement ring. It wasn’t easy at the start, but looking back it was a blessing. I was able to go back to school. Focus on my studies and pull out a job where I’m making 30K more than I was at the job that let me go. Use your time wisely; learn some new skills (need inspiration?! Watch Napoleon Dynamite), finish some personal/hobby projects you have been putting off, read a book. Then start hitting up your network and don’t stop until you have 3 interviews lined up. I wish I had this app at the time I lost my job, this place is FULL of resources, be smart and try to use them. I’m happy to help in anyway I can. Best of luck OP!
I was always afraid to ask but I’ve been pleasantly surprised. I’m a lot more trusting than I was! Just didn’t know HOW!
Stay strong. DM me if you want to talk
Which firm? Also which practice within the firm? I know it wasn’t the original intent, but giving some light background in this thread may lead to a connection to another job, half our firms are hiring like wildfire
Yes great job market. But expect 3 to 6 months looking for a comparable job. That’s why you need severance. It’s nice to be asked and appreciated but better to get an offer!
What firm?!
Thoughtworks is hiring 👋
I appreciate it.
also don’t be committed to using cobra, which can be godawfully expensive . . . take a look at the obamacare offerings in your state, which can be excellent, maybe even subsidized, plans
What firm, so we can all avoid/boycott in the future
Be gentle with yourself. 9 times out of 10 looking back is pointless. Find a job that has more of what you like; and less of what you don’t. The types of jobs you search and apply for are the jobs you will get - so take a break and THINK!
Stay strong OP. Good luck
Whatever happened to finding another project or going on bench if the project can’t support you? There has to be more to this??
Stay strong, OP!
Happy to refer you if you’re in one of our cities!! We have WAY too much work and not enough people. DM me if you would like.
Was going to say EY is hiring!
Got fired twice and landed a job recently . Don’t worry . Take a couple of weeks break . Go to the beach , sleep well and start asking for referrals
I was laid off once. They gave me a $45k check to leave and said I can still file for unemployment benefits. I took their money and put it on a down payment for a home.
I thought you meant on top of your bonus.
Cobra is soooo expensive $400-500 a month depending on the company
2600 for a family for ehealthinsurance.
OP how long were you there?
It sounds like there’s performance issues but regardless, you deserve better. Don’t resign, listen to D1 and negotiate your exit package
Negotiate for a package first!
