NY State Freelancers who were/are on unemployment. I have an active claim and receiving UI. Starting a gig this week for about a month. I have an offer for a company abroad. Originally they wanted me to fly out and start the day after Thanksgiving (not celebrated in their country), but because of the holidays I suggested starting in either December or January with the ability to take some holiday days in December to fly back home for Christmas. They then proposed starting out remotely “as soon as possible” in the US as a contractor and then moving abroad to start full time abroad. (Cont)

Is it just me or do 90% of the jobs being laid off by big tech sound made up? Many job descriptions with multiple bullet points that all kinda revolve around the same idea. Is it unreasonable for me to ask my husband to leave his job (or request unpaid time off) to take care of our children? We have been trying to both work from home with 2 kids at home (ages 2 and 4) and it has been a general shitshow every day. My wife and I just had our second child, and we have also been dealing with her cervical cancer diagnosis. It has been a stressful year, to say the least. I want to do something nice for her, but money is tight right now because of the cancer treatment costs, and her being on unpaid leave because of the cancer treatments.
