Empower

One that works...what do you want it to do?

Empower doesn’t connect to robinhood or my bank, Ally.

Not for me, I get this message “we are having trouble connecting. This should be resolved in a few days” … it’s been months!

I use my account manager’s app.

I’m currently testing Origin (they had a deal, you get 1 year to test it for $1.00, so I figured I’d give them a try). The app doesn’t suck, but it’s got a lot more than I think I want it for. I was just looking for a replacement for Mint Finance.

Monarch

bruh how much money and investments are you tawkin bout?

Google sheets

I miss Mint, it was so good for being free.

I use Monarch now, I do have to pay but it works well. Only one of my several accounts that has issues syncing is Target credit card. Have not used Empower.

YNAB but there’s a subscription fee

I’ve recently started work at a very young tech startup. Coming from a big law background, this was a huge change of pace/environment. I’m having a lot of trouble getting used to how unstructured the startup is. It feels like hire ups give a set of instructions then talk as if they don’t remember, or then decided rules A, B, C and D applies without being clear this was the case. Is this just the general startup environment? If you experienced this before, how did you deal with It?

Well yes. Crypto is taxed like stocks & other types of property. When you sell for a profit, you are required to pay tax on the gains. It’s called capital gains tax.

My monthly salary is around $6.4k after-tax. Living in NYC. Do you think it’s reasonable that I pay:
- about $1.5k on rent
- about $500 on utilities and subscriptions
- about $900 on student loan
- about $2k on food and etc.
My saving goals is around $3k so been trying to adjust my monthly spending.

Is there a definitive guide to cost of living? The obvious cost of living centers (SF, NYC, LA etc.) get covered a lot, but I’m wondering where my city falls. It often feels like a MCOL area but I’m not sure how to adequately judge that, and it would be helpful to know when comparing salaries and the like.
