Anyone investing in index annuities? Can someone explain why this is beneficial?

Tips for how you’re accumulating wealth with absolutely no financial inheritance/intelligence from parents? I want to retire early but am late in the investments game. I have a Roth IRA invested in a target date fund, max out my HSA and invest in REITS and ETFS, and contribute more to 401k when I have leftover $$. What do you guys do? Am i missing any smart moves here?

How does NY (or any other states that tax income) enforce taxes on nonresidents? Assume the taxpayer does not file state return with NY and does not have NY on W2.

Seems NY would have no way of targeting said taxpayer for audit. Thoughts?

Deloitte fish: I’m an alum trying to do some retirement planning. I was an SM2 vested in the pension plan (I worked in DTTL for 7 years ending 2013) and want to find out what my actual benefits will be and at what age. I can see short term changes but the way Amex has been aggressively marketing Platinum card, we just will have overcrowding of primary card holders 🤷🏻‍♂️

Does anyone use a brokerage account instead of a checking account? Mine offers a fee free debit/atm card and free checks which I'd rarely use but starting to question whether it is worth maintaining my "big bank" checking account that requires a $1500 minimum balance.

Hey all! I’m 30 years old. About to close on a house with a 5.75% fixed 30 yr mortgage. If you were me and your goal was to maximize your net worth by retirement, would you put a few thousand dollars extra into paying down the house faster or invest that extra money in the market? Home reno financing question. Have a big project coming up in the $120-150k range. Funding sources are:
- 90k from a heloc around prime
- 10k from a credit card that offers promo checks at 2-3% for 12-18 months
- 375k in a brokerage
- 5-6k per month cash that I can put towards the project, loans, or brokerage

I don't want to stop funding the brokerage because my FIRE plan is less numbers based than "hoard like dragon until it's enough" but maybe I should... How would you optimize?

What are some aggressive ways to control your spending? I tried a little but of everything(paying myself first, only debit cards,cash) but seems like i have the urge to spend and i do so. Any tips?

Is there a definitive guide to cost of living? The obvious cost of living centers (SF, NYC, LA etc.) get covered a lot, but I’m wondering where my city falls. It’s a modest Midwest city with ~100k residents but is a relatively touristy spot. It often feels like a MCOL area but I’m not sure how to adequately judge that, and it would be helpful to know when comparing salaries and the like.

Turning 28 and hit $300K NW today. Never formally FIRE’d but want to set out a plan for here onwards. What’s some good material / easy reading to start with?

I’m curious why more non-US citizens interested in FIRE don’t go live in a no/low tax jurisdiction even for a few years e.g. Dubai, some Caribbean islands. I get that some people will have family circumstances (e.g. elderly parents to look after) so it won’t be possible for them, but for a significant proportion it will be an option

Anyone know of a good cross-border US/UK financial fiduciary?
