Wanted to highlight Prudential Financial’s hiring practices. They rescinded my offer once I attempted to negotiate the salary. The official reason given was that I didn’t “sound excited enough”.
They then admittedly gave the offer to someone who was less qualified. There were other red flags throughout the job offer process that the HR team should overall be ashamed of.

Never tell them your current salary
Everything is negotiable
How far are you in process? What’s the leverage you have eg competing offers? All this will determine the tactics. If you have specific skills they are looking for, highlight that.
Let’s say you’re in the offer stage. How would you go about the following:
Scenario 1: you have competing offers from consulting firms.
Scenario 2: you have competing offers from consulting and industry.
I’ve always just asked for a slightly higher number even when I didn’t have competing offers, but was counting on them really wanting to hire me. I’d be curious to hear tips from others! How do you respond when they ask you desired salary and current salary?
