Client-facing roles can pay more at the senior level, but the gap is smaller than people think — and data/analytics skills are closing it fast. The ceiling on pure IC analyst work has risen significantly as companies actually start valuing the people who can interpret the numbers, not just present them. Where it can stall you is if you avoid visibility entirely. You don't have to own the client relationship — but being the person with the answers in the room matters. Are you at an agency or in-house?
Yes, but that isn’t to say there isn’t money in the back end. Client-facing just tends to scale faster. If you stay as an independent contributor, you’ll probably have to specialize to see a bump around mid-career level.
At least there are long-term career options for people who want to contribute individually.
