Recruiters failed their first career choice, so I wouldn't take their opinion seriously. They all told me the same thing too and now I work in corporate finance at a F500.
I do recommend getting the CPA though.
Did you get an mba to move to finance and strategy or just applied and networked ?
don’t listen to the recruiter, keep in mind they are just likely trying to shove you in a spot so they get a payday. just start applying to jobs on linkedin/indeed you find interesting. it will require more effort in the search and networking to get at a similar/higher pay grade. no reason to feel
down. good luck

Look for a financial analyst or FP&A role. This is probably like the second or 3rd most common exit role from audit as a senior.
Please, that's not true. I don't have my CPA but have held a few SFA positions. CPA does help but not necessary.
Financial Analyst. You get to do the gray area of finance with little involvement in accounting but it helps to have an understanding of it.
Finance is very competitive but you don’t need a coach to succeed. Just a different mindset than accounting. So I agree partially. I would just recommend researching what type of finance or business roles you are interested in and if there is a gap in the knowledge you need to get into one of those positions. For instance if you want to go into real estate finance research it. So definitely doable.
I always hear how important it is to have the cpa. Studying myself and hope to obtain this credential one day. I’d recommend getting it but I understand ur pov
