If you can't think of any marketable skills you have it's going to be tough to convince an employer
It's a competitive process but it can be done. Strategy & Ops at Google etc. will take you as well. They love people 2-3 years out of school. Own it and be confident!
"Generalist in tech doesn't help"
Traditional PE may take you or have you improve operations at a portfolio company.
P2: you're the bomb. Love ya
What exactly you do in tech? Be more specific.
Generalist in tech, banking cap markets
Me three!
Funny, I feel the same way, like I have no skill set or specialty and thus no exit ops
What have you been doing in tech? Let me give you an example from someone who is also in tech:
Held management and technical roles that span from backend database performance and technical architecture to dev ops for web applications. Proficient in SQL, Java, JavaScript, Unix, Node, GIT, Agile, AngularJS, Ractive, HTML, CSS.
My expertise is more traditional cap markets from industry. So at least I have that.
Thus asking.
Any advice then?
What did you do pre consulting? You can try for PE. You can also try for Strategy & Op's roles at tech companies. Those are fairly general.
Straight from college. Thanks.
Ok. Strategy and op's may be easier. But you are very desirable three years out especially if you have started at PwC. Reach out to recruiters and attend a few networking events. Chose carefully.
@p2: when you say pe, do you mean traditional PE work or tech strat in pe? Asking bc I'm trying to migrate that way but not sure how many make that move
That's not really something anyone else can help with. If you didn't learn anything in 3 years that's valuable that's an issue. You need to realize consulting isn't a skill and focus on something that's valuable
