Personally no. I'd sooner quit my job than take drugs. Assuming the job was the cause and that finding a different but somewhat comparable position could alleviate the situation.
I day this as someone who was prescribed a drug about a year after switching to consulting from industry. I took some.medical leave to evaluate the situation. Although I had issues before, I'm pretty sure the current job has exacerbated the situation to the point of medication. I'd rather find another job that gets my body closer to doing what it needs to do on its own.
Nothing wrong with the right drugs. I take Prozac for anxiety and propranolol for presentation to alleviate the symptoms (sweating, etc). Literally changed my life and has been something that held me back professionally.
Lysergic acid dyethylmide (aka LSD) works for me at microdose levels. Fluoxetine Hydrochloride = Prozac. It was a miracle drug for millions fighting mental illnesses of various sorts.
Both are incredibly simple molecules with low toxicity.
I’ve taken both but prefer LSD. 😜🤓
I completely respect the need to take medication for anxiety, and offer the following only as a word of caution based on personal family experience — my mom has a Xanax addiction, she has been taking it twice daily for about 20 years. This has manifested in permanent lack of physical coordination, confusion, memory loss, etc. that has not been linked to anything else. She is not the same person anymore. Doctors won’t talk about the long term effects and will keep prescribing, meanwhile it is highly addictive. Just be careful with taking it daily unless you really really need it, have a chronic anxiety disorder, and natural methods don’t work. Many folks do need it and I completely understand that, just want to offer this in case it helps.
I can relate
Yo, if that’s what happens to you with xans you need to contribute to science and enable the rest of us.
not a doctor, but if you have chronic anxiety, xanax might not be a great first option. besides being super strong, it has a very short half-life, so it doesn’t last very long. for that reason, it’s better suited for more acute cases of anxiety, such as panic attacks. i do think that the fact so many people are on xanax speaks to the power of big pharma and lack of experience of many prescribers in treating anxiety.
most people who use benzos routinely as they’re intended (to the extent benzos are meant for everyday use - i would say they’re really not, and i personally try to skip at least 1 day between doses) are on a longer acting formulation, like valium or klonopin.
I used to... and actually need to get back to it. Use a pill cutter and take 1/4-1/2... no need for a full pill.
I take anxiety for flying but not for the actual job.
I have .5s but sometime take .75. I wish I could get uncle D to slip me them.
I actually hate taking any medication(no I’m not an antivaxer and I’m up to date always) so it took me awhile to come to the fact I needed it. I’d also prefer not to do it long term.
I take Zoloft everyday and Adavan only as needed to combat panic attacks. It works and is a sustainable long term solution for me. Unfortunately there is no “one size fits all” solution for anxiety. It may take a few different medications before you find one that works. Don’t be tied to Xanax because it’s the most well known. Find a licensed Psychiatrist who can help talk through options.
Only because I haven’t seen either mentioned here; this is a friendly plug for the benefits of Meditation (try the Calm or Waking Up apps) and/or CBD.
Not saying either is a panacea or will solve your particular issues, but starting with zero toxicity or natural alternatives is always preferable.
Second this... meditation and CBD...I’ve also tried some natural meds like skull cap and peppermint- see an herbalist and ask about this mix...
Every night or else I have night terrors and wake up screaming. Not needed during the day unless hungover (FYI Excedrin Migraine + Xanax is a great hangover remedy). Used to use during day when anxious but after learning about imposter syndrome and perfectionism problems, my anxiety significantly decreased.
Follow up: does anyone in Chicago know where I can talk to someone about getting a prescription? I think it would help me but my PCP seems very against prescribing even after I describe my anxiety
SA1 OP is referring to their primary care physician
The CNN show on Benzos was very interesting (and scary)

I suggest Buspar/Buspirone. It’s a daily medication that alleviates the symptoms of anxiety without being a benzo. I took it 2/3 times a day for about a year until I developed better coping mechanisms and then tapered off.
