It’s very role specific. And most roles are not looking for people with certifications but experience with GHG accounting certain frameworks like CDP, GRI, SBTi. If you don’t have experience with those, then I would start with trainings and certs with those so you can get the job to have the experience. LEED is an important one if you plan to do sustainability in the built environment.
Seconding all of this. Certifications and training are a good way to build your knowledge especially if you're trying to pivot into sustainability reporting. But at the end of the day, direct experience working with the standards and frameworks is the most respected.
From the carbon side, the ones I’m most aware of include SASB FSA (even though SASB is part of ISSB now), GRI, CFA ESG, LEAD. Overall you’ll want to be really familiar with the GHG Protocol, CDP, GRI…
Also climate risks and opportunities are increasingly included in regulatory requirements (check out the GARP SCR)
