Unless you’re leaving every 12-18 months for a new role, I think you leave when you’re ready. I do think it’s good to have at least one place in your resume for a few years to show you can ascend within an existing structure.
yeah 12-18 months feels very short. But I'm willing to overlook it if someone has had a history of being somewhere else for a pretty significant amount of time.
Five years
I got to five years at my last company and felt like I way overstayed my welcome. I felt ancient.
Probably 3-5 years. Comes down a lot to the company. If, after a few years, you know there is no possibility of growth, that should be reason enough for you to start looking around.
Definitely agree growth is important. When you stagnate and can tell doors are closing its time to go
It also depends if you’re getting promoted internally. At the end of the day you need to demonstrate progression. If you need to leave to do that, then go for it.
Progression is definitely important. Love the idea of focusing more on that than just time at the firm.
