I uh, wear my hair tie on my wrist.
I'll see myself out. 😅
Maria Shireen makes super cute hair tie bracelets that I have used to ‘dress up’ the hair tie on my wrists!
And to answer your original question, Rolex on left wrist. Fitbit on the right wrist and of course, my hair tie 😁
It depends on your industry.
If one is CEO of a blue collar work force, stealth wealth is key.
If one is leading a group of people where money is the carrot, then showcasing the fruits of labor is part of the game.
Completely agree with this. Don't know if this resonates with you guys, but I've also felt it differs between men and women. In certain circles, men can totally get away with dressing shabbier (think quintessential male tech CEO) while as a woman, I tend to feel expected to look as polished as possible. Wearing high quality statement pieces, if anything, seems to have helped me when networking with other women the most. Curious to hear others' experiences.
I get stealth wealth is a thing, but maybe start with one statement piece and see how that makes you feel. You should absolutely go for it 😊
I wish I knew someone fancy so I could borrow one for a week and see… I did splurge on a couple bracelets but I’ve not worn them to work - I guess I’m worried about looking like I have more money than sense… which is all in my head I know - my salary is public so everyone knows what I earn if they want to and likely nobody is thinking about what’s on my wrist nearly as much as I am 🤣
Ahmm... Pixel watch and hair tie 💁🏻♀️💎
That is a FANCY hair tie!!
I wear a two tone Rolex to work. I don’t see it as flashy at all. I bought it as a treat when I made director. I’ll add that it was an estate find that I most likely would not have paid for if I’d found it new. Maybe that has something to do with me feeling comfortable to wear it as an everyday watch. In the seven years since I’ve owned it I can count on my hands how many times someone has commented on it. I still love it as much as when I first bought it and I really enjoy being able to wear it as much as I do.
Thanks MPM1! I learned something new!
JPM1 mine came from a very reputable shop and had papers of authenticity. I also just checked their website and sure enough they also specify that they are a Rolex certified preowned reseller. So if you’re looking to do some trying on and seeing in person you could start by finding a local jeweler who sells certified preowned.
SVP level, 25+ years working, wear an Apple Watch with silver Lagos band, David Yurman bracelets, Lagos bracelets. Sometimes together, sometimes not. Sometimes I mix in a gold bracelet of my grandmother’s or even mix in lower end beaded bracelets to keep things interesting. Most of the yurman/Lagos were gifts from my husband. I figure IYKYK about these brands and if you don’t, you don’t. Diamonds are reserved for my wedding rings and for the huggie hoops in my ears.
Apple Watch with a leather strap. I have branded watches and jewelry but don’t wear it to work because I am either in New York or traveling and unfortunately safety is a concern walking the streets and using public transportation. I also don’t wear my diamonds or carry Chanel or have anything on my person worth more than $1k unless I know I will be picked up and dropped off door to door for an event. Crime has unfortunately stayed elevated post-pandemic and it’s not worth the risk.
Watches are good investment pieces if you do your research and while will buy another soon I don’t wear mine currently unless an occasion as not comfortable walking around with it on (many cities globally seeing increase in theft on watches and jewellery). My bracelets also discreet (also due though to my upbringing). Generally though I think it’s what makes you feel comfortable …if theft rates went down here (Europe) I’d wear a nice watch if not too flashy. I wouldn’t worry on opinions though unless you are wearing i.e. white gold Daytona and higher (which then they will see and speak on) and think clothes can be more powerful anyway.
I love bracelets. Nothing fancy or over the top, silver, brass, gold plated, enamel. I even have a faux David Yurman which I had since before I knew that was a thing. I like the Hermes enamel bangles but each time I think about it I talk myself out of it.
(I personally find the Cartier love bracelets cringey because I see them so much and I don’t find them that beautiful for the price. )
I used to wear mid priced watches (movado) but no longer wear a watch. I do like the Cartier tank watch - if i wore a watch I’d probably get that.
Part of my question comes from the fact that my dad was a CEO: he intentionally didn’t wear anything fancy to work and intentionally drove a relatively inexpensive car so that his employees didn’t see ostentatious displays of wealth - I’ve traditionally had the same mindset but I’m wondering if I’m thinking about it wrong given the impact that this woman who wore bling had on my desire to make a bunch of money and buy my own stuff.
Very interesting, and I can see both sides of it. I think when it comes to everything you own, wear, drive, etc. is just expensive for the sake of being expensive, it does kind of lose its meaning and value really. If you really enjoy bracelets, or a watch, then I can see the splurge in it. And don’t really see it as over the top either.
Anyone can technically be a CEO, if they start their own business. I think wealth is a balance. I probably have more money than most but I don't think you'd guess it from my clothes. I do wear Rolex, Omega, Cartier, and more expensive luxury but always understated, under a shirt sleeve, etc. I've worn diamonds but probably wouldn't wear a diamond tennis bracelet. However, I work in a creative industry and we dress down. It would look out of place even at a cocktail or black tie event. Our CEO wears a gold day date but it's a daily wear for her, and she doesn't tend to wear a lot of other fancy or expensive stuff.
Oh, and I should add: almost no one notices or cares about what's on your wrist aside from other watch enthusiasts who would notice. Jewelry, sure, other women notice but if it's anything other than Rolex or maybe an AP Royal Oak, it's not likely it'll get noticed. I wear what I want and I've only gotten comments a few times, and mostly it was admiration and not jealousy.
I have stepped up my jewelry game in the last couple of years and I feel like it has made me look much more put together and polished - now even when my outfit is very basic I feel like I bring more of a “grown up” energy into the room. On my wrist I like a two tone watch (not crazy expensive one but pretty) and a couple of bracelets stacked with it.
