For all intents & purposes, KT (particularly Client Focus track) is a fully staffed consultant. Albeit, you’re substantially cheaper than typical CT track.
Really it’s a cheaper way for BCG to get extra headcount on cases. That said, usually KTers come in with knowledge in a particular field so add immediate & meaningful value to a team beyond that of a typical A or C who are great workhorses. Partners value KT and will look to you as an expert from day one {intimidating but cool}, so you can cozy up to them pretty quickly in comparison to CT, as youre aligned to their practice area.
On the flip side, you’ll work the exact same hours as CT (coming off a case with ~5 80hr weeks) all while getting paid significantly less than CT.
Question of “is it worth it” is interesting. From a dollar/hr view, no absolutely not worth it. From a way into BCG, getting the name on your resume, work on cool cases + build your brand as a intelligent & hard working person & maybe switch into CT, that’s up for you to decide.
If you worked 5 80-Hr weeks in a row as KT, something is seriously off. You (and your manager) need to better establish boundaries with your case teams clients. Not every week will be 40 hours, but as KT a key advantage of the role (and justification for lower pay) is WLB. But you have to establish and enforce boundaries to make that a reality - CT aren’t going to do that for you
I’m interviewing for a KA role at BCG as well and haven’t found useful resources or even much on salary expectations
Interesting - so what’s the salary expectation? Also compared to CT? Im based in London.
Think a lot of people, me included, have been reached out to about this
FYI - very few KT move to front end consulting. Possible but far less than 10 percent. Many best performers leave for other consulting firms
Your pay is prob 50 percent Of consulting CT
Ok cool thank you all! Exactly what I thought :)
