When I came to the USA, I started as a housekeeper/Houseman then moved to the laundry room, then banquet setup and server, after I worked in restaurants as a delivery driver, cook, buser, server, then retail, then I decided to go to school for software engineering wile I was working at a call center, then collections and I was accepted into the Software engineer program for new grads where I started my tech career and now I'm a senior software engineer
I came into tech, out of a background of poverty and abuse, with no college degree, self-taught in compsci (and, I know my data structures and algorithms, design patterns, approaches, cloud solutions, Linux and Unix, and multiple programming languages).
I've been Lead Software Architect at a Fortune Top 10, and a Software Architecture Consultant at two others, and am about to be Architect, for a greenfield project, at a major content producer, streaming service, and broadcaster.
Thank You, for this opportunity to be seen and heard!
I used to be a pastor and started teaching myself Google Analytics. Best decision I ever made. Been in the space for a little over a decade and it's going incredibly well!
I was a mailman for 19 years and switched to tech. Now I make more money, have better work/life balance and have a lot of more room for growth. It has been nothing but the right move. All I needed was a few Certifications and I was able to get my foot in the door. Best of luck if your thinking of a career change!
Wow.. I wish I had the same cool ending but who knows.. 😊
I was a technical support without knowledge in computer technology but thanks to Google. Someone called, not able to connect to the internet and we ended with a re-installing the OS.
Anyway. I became a systems administrator after 3 years of perseverance. A company entrusted me to lead a few computer geeks to cover Aspect eWFM support. The company did save a lot and I was earning 10x that of my teaching salary.
Until, I was illegally arrested for drugs and stayed in jail for 3 years. I am now pursuing MPM and MIS, hoping these will get me back on my feet.
