Lack of confidence held me back early in my career, but now lack of time is the biggest hurdle.

And I think that's what leads to utter disappointment because putting aside personal accomplishment which I am not denying matters a lot, employees do look up to their higher officials to recognize their efforts and dedication

In my early years, myself.

I was convinced I was ready for a promotion and being held back by my manager. Turns out I wasn't listening to what he was saying, I was too stubborn and proud. It took me some time to understand this.

Once I cracked that, nothing has held me back.

I think I have little interest in career goals because other things in life fulfill me. I’m still a hustler but there’s a jog instead of a run these days. Also, it’s taken me a long time to figure out what I want to do since plan A wasn’t a plan anymore.

Any good recommended books on how to build a scalable product and team? I'm looking for recommendations for two areas: 1) in general laying the groundwork in a startup to have the tools and especially processes in place to scale, and 2) tactical focus on building a SaaS project. I've been promoted into a management role from Dev roots, so need to learn more PM processes to be an effective manager in day job, plus would like to start building my own SaaS solution.

I have two offers, one from Am Law 100 firm and one from Am Law 200 firm. Am Law 200 firm is offering 40K more (otherwise the firms have same hours target and, based on discussions, similar culture). I’m trying to decide between the two based on long term career prospects, both offer opportunity for NEP (not sure how realistic it is at either). Also not sure of overall earning potential down the road. Is the 40K now worth it or am I likely to make that up at the Am Law 100 firm in the future?

Over the past year, my counsel is constantly judged by a select few senior business folks (eg arguing over FTC compliance, IP risk counsel, and even simple things regarding NDAs that any attorney wouldn’t question. It feels like they want a rubber stamper, which is not me.I never faced this at my prior in-house roles (probably because they were much a larger). Any advice on how to handle?

Right so here’s a bit of a dilemma I work to a much higher standard at home and it’s this high standard that means I’m in line for a promotion. I’ve grown so much and I feel really strong in my role I’m also busier than ever. The problem is we’re going back into the office and I don’t want to go in if it’s just going to be senior management in asking me to get them lunches for client meetings or fetch a glass of water and cutlery for meeting rooms. Definitely not ready to go back to that….

Hi everyone,

I'm going for a role for Account Director and have gone through the interviews with the head of accounts, BD as well as the ECD's. I received the following email at the end of the day:

"You are one of two candidates in the final round.

One thing we haven’t spoken about are your salary expectations. Could you have a think and let me know early next week as well as your employment status (residency permit)."

What would be the best way to answer this response? Appreciate the help

Throughout my career, I have worked at both “traditional” and “digital” shops. My current agency would fall under traditional but also offers digital services. Our process, roles and skillsets seem way outdated but I wasn’t sure if it was just my opinion or if this is just how it works. For example, we have no CTO or tech leads. Our digital producers feel more like project managers than actual producers. Account Management is just traditional, no real digital knowledge. Feels layered and dated.
