I think AI strategy is better
Well absent compensation comparison and other things I think if you do want AI on your resume now is the chance. It will be much harder in a few years when there will be true experts. Plus financial services is an industry that considering regulations etc is typically slower to adapt meaning you’d have a job for years to come.
Although I see the benefit of ops role too - I think depends on the trajectory of that tech company and whether you want to go into P&L ownership and which industry you’re more interested in long term
I think 2. My personal opinion, but AI Strategy just sounds an awful lot like IT Strategy wrapped in a pretty package. At the end of the day, AI is hot rn because companies are figuring out the playbook and driving major efficiencies while they are at it, but once the playbook is written and most companies become as AI enabled as they can get, the AI strategy and consulting roles will become a cost center similar to IT and be treated as such. They won’t remain mission critical forever. Your goal should be to drive revenue and own a P&L for a company, and the S&O role will get you there. In AI strategy, you are only a loss
A massive reason why leaders exist is because someone needs to be held accountable to achieve certain targets or metrics. That is also why they are handed authority. How can you hold a robot accountable?
