What is the best way to transition my career into the PM field? Background is in healthcare billing/collections/insurance and I was supervisor over a 14 person team not long ago. Took a chance at a reimbursement analyst role at a hospital and do not like it. When researching other options Project Management seemed like a versatile and interesting field to transition to. Starting my counseling career on Tuesday and I’m scared to fail. What if I say something stupid and hurt my clients and make it worse? This is a second career for me so is hard to be older and a novice. I know it’s not about me and that I will truly care so I keep reminding myself of that. Attended a top 5 UG and have 1 YOE. Doing mostly public sector work right now. Hours are fine, but pay is not at all competitive and the work is slow and not interesting. Thinking of exiting to something that’s more intense and stimulating. Thoughts on next steps? Should I try to apply and lateral to a different firm that isn’t so public sector focused?
