Hi there! I work for a tech start-up and I've been tasked with revisiting their compensation philosophy and propose a better structure. Hi! I have worked in management roles in tech, mainly in analytics, for approximately 10 years. My TC has fluctuated (currently around 135K CAD), but it seems like it's relatively easy to breach the 100K bar, but hard to breach the 150K bar. I now work at the CBC, but I have worked in the private sector too. What is the most realistic way to move to 200K? 1) Continue moving the ladder to a VP position, 2) Switch to Pre-Sale, 3) Switch to Consulting, 4) Work from a U.S. company from Canada.

Currently a staff in audit - 6 months in. Glad to be learning a lot, and have had a generally positive experience at the firm other than a few interactions, some tough busy season nights. Really been intrigued by TAS/M&A, however, and had a few convos with a senior in TAS i know at the firm. It’s closer to what I studied, but don’t know how to make the jump as it seems an internal transfer could take 6+months/senior rank and a lot of convincing. Is it better to jump firms/has anyone done this?

Currently a first year staff in Risk Advisory in a Mid-Tier Firm hoping to move to Big 4 for either Risk or Cyber. When would be the most appropriate time to make the change? So would it be smarter to make the move now as a first year staff since I’ll be considered Experienced Hire anyway?

For context, this writer I work with conceptualizes by himself, emails the Account team, gives deep input, and makes decisions for us without consulting with me (his “partner”) most of the time. “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response” -Viktor Frankl

What do you do when you make the wrong career choice?

Forgive yourself. No one is perfect. You are learning. Wrong choices are part of the learning process.

Ask for forgiveness if your choice negatively impacted another.

Work on recognizing the space between stimulus and response. Ask for help if you need it.

All of the above will help you make a better choice next time.

Mid-year review time.

Are you meeting or exceeding your objectives?

I’m not talking about the objectives your manager set FOR YOU.

I’m talking about the goals YOU set for YOU.

- Joining the company that aligns with your values
- Getting paid what you’re worth

No one sets these for you. You do the work.

I’ve over 15 yrs experience and looking for job with no luck. Everyone telling me sending apps for senior roles (VP plus) doesn’t work.
Can anyone help me with reaching out to people via email. Formats/ content I saw online are for entry level people. How do I ask people to connect with me without asking for a job ?

If you’re “Networking” you’re doing it wrong.

Would you walk up to someone you’ve never met at a dinner party and ask for their number?

That’s what a connection request without a note is like.

Not interested.

Start a conversation. Be friendly. Be genuine. Be curious. Be respectful. Learn and exchange ideas.

Don’t only reach out when you need a job.

Get to know childrens’ names and favorite vacations.

Be a friend.

Friends aren’t a “network”.

They’re people we care about.
