Eh; there a couple posts on this- the concept that litigators find a hard time going in house is maybe true but only with respect to departments run by a GC with no foresight. I love litigators for general commercial/product roles... they’re always my first choice.
What are examples of product roles
Transition to employment lit, and then in house
FAANG and other big tech firms have lots of opportunities for litigators and total comp is comparable to big law base comp. Apply widely and look at roles beyond straight lit (regulatory, compliance, policy, product, etc.). Also, be creative with how you sell your experience as relevant to the positions. The application process is competitive though, so don’t be discouraged by rejections; just keep applying.
In-house is only one...you can clerk, go into gov., etc.
There are some great mid-sized lit firms that pay market. What is it exactly you are looking to leave behind?
i’m sure it depends on the firm, but we’re super super busy and i doubt anyone is under shooting 1950 other than first year associates
Why are litigators more limited?
Because there are no real in house options. Unless you consider regulatory under the umbrella of litigation, but even then the universe is 100x small than corporate in house.
Midlaw, government, clerkship, non-profit.
