Critical thinking? AI seems to be good at analyzing data but at the end of the day I think it still needs a human to understand what to do with that data or inputs to tell it what to do.
You're right about that. Anything that requires human judgment is where AI utterly fails. It can't know what relationships you may have with someone, and it certainly can't pick up on nuances that you will understand. Another thing is that LLMs are trained by scraping the web, so they're essentially looking into the past. They're good at some things, like aggregating research materials quickly. What they can't do is be creative or be on the cutting edge, as they're only reshaping what has already been produced.

That was such an eloquent way of phrasing it! Yes, it drives me crazy that it only spits out past work and can’t actually get creative or brainstorm. The research can be incredibly helpful, but many of its creative ideas are just bland, overly done campaigns that wouldn’t get any coverage in today’s media landscape.
Soon, there will be no reporters and AI will be just fine researching and pitching other AI
It all depends on your industry and the publications/journalists within them. It can help you gather a list together of reporters, find social handles for them, and give a very basic sense of what topics they cover if you use the right prompts and are willing to have trial and error. I used ChatGPT and Copilot recently to help with creating a general media list, but I agree that from there, you need to manually narrow it down and use context and some thoughtfulness to reach the right ones, i.e. human intervention should not fully go away. So would I let AI tools fully automate outreach to journalists and go on auto pilot to pitch my story? Probably not. But that's just me.
