What’s the longest vacation you’ve taken? Planning a 2 week trip to Japan in November and worried about pushback. We have unlimited PTO. It’ll be my first vacation since being at my firm 1.5 years), though I had maternity leave for 4 months. Obviously the leave wasn’t vacation but just giving context.

I take a 2-week vacation every fall. Never been an issue. Enjoy Japan!

I just came back from three weeks, but the first week I was soft off, and there were two firm holidays thrown in there. Not my honeymoon. Enjoy your trip!

3 weeks approved 6 months in advance. When I got back I heard that HR was telling everyone that it should never have been approved by my boss. I found a new job and left a month later but those 3 weeks in Europe were totally worth it.

I just got back from taking 4 weeks off. It was much needed. I did check up on emails and made sure anything huge coming in didn't surprise me. It made me think I need more time off. Work is way too stressful for no reason sometimes

Two weeks. After being at each firm 2.5+ years. Note that I’ve taken 2 two week vacations in 20+ years, with no mat/pat leave or honeymoon included .

I’ve taken a few ten day vacations to Europe or over Christmas and never had any trouble. My firm isn’t unlimited PTO though, so not sure how that changes things.

I don’t know if unlimited PTO means there’s no restrictions on the amount of days you can take at one time. You need make sure your stuff done and covered so they don’t get annoyed with you and change the policy.

3 weeks once, 2 weeks often (about once a year, really common at my firm), and 7 months maternity leave with vacation on the end.

My last vacation was in 2023 (sad I know) and it was 2 weeks. I think as long as you communicate with everyone you work with and make sure to get any deadlines you have taken care of before you leave (or move if possible), it’s fine. Just make sure you have appropriate go-to contacts that can help cover if anything arises while gone.

When I was firm, it was like 5 days 🙃 in house, I’m planning a few days off and I envisioned and told them about a week or more off for a European vacation and no one batted an eye.

New/pivoting into HR! 👋 Currently working as a TA Coord with a little entry level work in HR Ops prior to this. Is there a SHRM link, reliable test, or method of shadowing the various parts of HR that will provide a sample of the work, thinking, and day to day experience of each group? I didn’t go to school for HR and therefore haven’t had the opportunity to sample HR Ops. vs. TA vs. Comp vs. Benefits vs. Payroll, etc. I know work experience is the best barometer, but what can supplement this?

Hello,
Does Cognizant provide reimbursement for WFH setup?

Last night I went over to my friends house (she has 2 kids, 2 and 4 yo). She and her husband were asking me about my pregnancy and planning. And were asking what I’ve prepped to date. I’m only 13w2 days so I think it’s way to early for buying stuff, but I did mention we hired a baby nurse for when the baby comes. My friend completely berated me, short of calling me a bad mom already, saying “what is she going to do all day? Don’t you want to bond with your child?”. I’m so upset by this.

Hello everyone! I am a Judicial Law Clerk, which I have been for a little over two years now. However, I’m planning on moving into the AML/Compliance realm. I have a background in finance, having been a Finance Disbursing Officer in the Army for 6 years with one deployment in that role. Additionally, I am currently a JAG attorney and studying for my CAMS, hoping to take that exam in the next month or two. Any advice or referrals for anyone I can talk to learn more about the field? Thanks! :)

Anyone else kind of bored clerking? I liked law school and thought I liked research and writing, but so far this district court clerkship has been pretty boring—lots of state law issues that are poorly briefed. Though to be fair, most of my time has been spent on one big case that I’m 99% sure is going to settle but not until the eve of trial bc that’s plaintiff’s counsel’s m.o.; so my work resolving the insane number of SJ and Daubert motions seems like a waste of my time.
