21 straight quarters of declining profit. They need to shake things up. Remote is a great ideal, but there's a lot to be said for what happens when surrounded by colleagues and ideas. Notice that Silicon Valley's biggest players have large campuses?
Agree. There's a ton of difference when I'm onsite vs "sorry, I was talking on mute."
IBM is a sinking boat if you look at their consulting business, they exhausted it and now only the carcass is left. They moved on and now are focusing on all things Watson and more hardcore tech. But they are too big and too bureaucratic to compete in that space, so of course they are failing.
Remote could be a trap for productivity...
21 straight quarters of declining profit as a company is an executive problem, not a remote consultant problem....
It's an easy way to trim the ranks - if people don't want to do it, they have self-selected to leave. No layoff program needed.

Remote working is most time less productive ...known fact ..even though is fun
If I spend 10 hrs/week (talking door-to-desk) commuting and 45 hrs in the office, even if I'm only 90% as productive from home I have still exceeded my productive output by over 10%. Over a 6 month engagement that's 2 weeks of productivity gained, nothing to shake a stick at.
