Clerk not sales person.
Not a sales job if so in my opinion.
That's odd. I've never worked a sales job with no commission before. How is the salary?
Hi! One of my peers works at a sneaker store in the mall (footlocker) part time and he just makes hourly. He was bummed out after not making enough, while selling over $30,000k worth of shoes / clothes / socks you name it.
He did tell me ftl had commission + hourly for their sales associates but them days are long gone
In medical sales, this is common as an associate because getting business is extremely hard so usually your first year or years attached to your team, your salary. After you’ve built some customers, then you switch to commission but if you’re by yourself not on a team and it’s no commission, there’s no incentive to sell.
I wouldn’t consider something where you aren’t earning commission or bonus based off your performance a sales job
I've noticed the low-cost item stores have moved away from base-plus-commission. I remember when I started my career at Sears (talk about days long gone), I think the base was $3.50 or $5 an hr. and 3-5 percent commission. That changed to minimum wage plus 1-3 percent commission before I left for another opportunity. My paychecks were about the same. I was told there had been some concern with falling afoul of federal wage and hour laws with the sub-minimum base. I said at the time that if you can't sell enough to net minimum wage at least then you are in the wrong job. At this time, it looks like what used to be minimum wage jobs are now almost double the minimum, so a straight hourly wage may be good for both the employee and the company. More for the company, I suspect.
