What’s your PTO policy? My firm offers 10 vacation days and 5 sick days. I know the private sector tends to have less PTO time compared to government jobs but I’m curious to know just how stingy my firm is lol

Unlimited as an entry level associate

like

Unlimited. Usually I leave around 4pm regularly or take a Friday off and not much more. Rarely full weeks but that's me personally and not a reflection on the firm or work culture just how I like to do it.

like

“Unlimited” but make your yearly billable requirement. I generally take one 2 week vacation and multiple long weekends per year.

like

I work for state government. 4.33333 hours of annual leave accrues every pay check, and 5.2 hours of sick leave. Annual leave per check increases with years of service. We are encouraged to take leave as much as possible. We can only carry 225 hours (30 days) of annual leave per check.

like

“Unlimited” PTO once I became an Associate. I probably end up taking 3-4 weeks off with one or two weeklong vacations and other days here and there. I previously worked for the firm as a paralegal while attending law school at night and we had 10 vacation days (increased with tenure), 5 sick days, and 2 personal days. Small (<10 lawyers) plaintiffs’ PI/Med Mal firm in New England.

like

Omg, I wish. I think I’ve take about 7 days this year. Crying

10 vacation days per year and 10 fixed holiday days (I.e. thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.). No paid maternity leave and no sick time for attorneys. We can work remotely if we are sick. The firm never closed or went remote for Covid. I’m at a medium sized firm in Nevada

like

Good g_d. Your firm is inhumane

We get 3 weeks and 2 days of PTO for sick days and vacation days to use a year with rollover option.

like

First year I had 5 weeks, after that unlimited. PI associate and I have my own caseload.

like

Attorney 2

I get salary plus a percentage but I agree with your reasoning, especially when I have surpassed my annual goal with months left before the year ends.

3 weeks PTO no sick days. Work from home costs PTO.

F*ck that. What *ssholes.

like

Officially it’s 4 weeks combined PTO/sick days, however you want to use them. But the firm doesn’t track and in no universe could I use all of that in a year (typing this from the office on a Saturday morning).

It’s unlimited.

I have an offer of 25% hike upfront and some hike 6 months when probation period is over (this is agreed verbally but gut feeling says they will give it). My current company agrees to match the 25% hike only but with one year commitment or refund of increment. Work culture is good in current company. Any suggestions?

I am a personal injury defense attorney and I’ve never done plaintiff’s work. I have a case where I suspect the plaintiff is malingering and exaggerating his injuries. The plaintiffs attorney has sent me multiple demands for $3 million dollars and basically begged me to respond with some offer. Ethics Q: my client created fruaduant medical documents in order to try to recover extra benefits from her injury. My thought is to settle her case with insurance company for whatever nominal amount is offered ASAP. However, this might be lower than her case is actually worth despite the the fruad. I would rather end representation as soon as possible. Thoughts? California ethics apply.
