I transferred firms to EY almost a year ago. I’m currently a SA1. I recently got my H1-B extension. Is it reasonable to assume that EY will start my GC application once I’ve been with the firm for a year? Or do I need to be at a higher rank or have less time left on my H1-B for them to get the process started?

Fit the job requirements
You need to tailor your resume to each job posting. Be sure you have many of the keywords. The algorithm will filter your resume, by using key words, from all others. Try to also submit a decent cover letter. Lastly, if you know someone at the firm you're applying to get them to look at the job posting so you can learn a little more about the job and be prepared for your phone screening.
Look @ job description & basically tailor your resume to reflect experiences that are relevant to the requirements
Apply through employee referral. All of those get looked at by a person.
Assuming you already fit them, of course.

Make sure your resume contains MANY keywords you observe in the job description (requirements). That's how the resume gets past automated screening systems and makes it to an actual HR person. Also, if you know someone at the company, ask them to forward your resume directly to the hiring manager. That way you bypass screening.
Power move.... Skip application and go right to recruiter on LinkedIn ⛷
@sc1 all the recruiter could do is tell you to apply directly to the Company's site. Very few major firms allow "walk in applications". A friend referral works best.
AC1 Any company sourcing in demand people is recruiting passive candidates through LinkedIn.
Posting a req and expecting people to apply is very old school.
@SC1 - correct company is recruiting by having a job post or directly reaching out to candidates. The recruiter, when you reach out to him/her, can't just take your resume. They will have to tell you to apply. Each company has their own "filtering" process. Also, depending on the job, the company may have surveys to look for cultural fit and even eligibility for the job.
