I tend not to make career decisions based on random X posts.
I was hoping a conversation recently with my (engineer) husband about compensation. We came to the conclusion that there are different forms of currency that make up our compensation. He gets more hard currency (cash). I get a lot more of the touchy-feely stuff: seeing the light bulb moments, seeing a kid progress, making connections, etc.
You can’t live other people experiences, and it’s only you who can make the decision to leave teaching. Set your expectation, you will be the best teacher, your students learn or not, let administrators administrate, let parents be parents, and you will have a great career.
My aunt is also an educator and she and I have this conversation quite frequently. You don't get into teaching these days for the money, point blank. You get into it because you love it and believe in the future generation. Even if my salary was cut in half, I would be battling it out to provide a valuable educational background for my students.
I am tired of that narrative. You don't join education to get rich, but that does not mean we are Peace Corps people that work for free. Teachers deserve adequate pay and a living wage, not just be working for free because it is "fun" to teach.
I don’t think I could be a bartender because I have a hard time hearing things in loud places. So I would never hear people’s orders. But the money does sound great.
You have to be young to be a bartender, pretty much. Plus, the pay in most cases is not as good or there is no pension.
I bet. And the environment could be friendlier v. a classroom.🥂
