When should I go back to public accounting from IRS? I left Big 4 for IRS almost 5 years ago. With everything happening in the IRS and my long term career goal of making MD in public accounting, I’ve been considering to return to public accounting. I’m open to all suggestions and also wonder if I will get low balled for staying at the IRS for too long ?

Sooner the better. You‘ll probably be brought back at the same level you left the private sector at +1 or 2 years if you can articulate your experience and sell yourself well. Be warned things are not rosy in public accounting right now. If you survived doge, consider staying.

I left IRS and joined back to public. Why? cuz in IRS, I felt like I didn't have enough support like public. was it worth it? in terms of hours no, but I am learning a lot these days and I feel like at least I am doing something instead of staring at the monitor and surrounded by people who are not working and talking all day especially very seasoned agents...

I’m also feeling I’m not learning here at the irs

What are you doing in IRS? Depends on which side of big 4? You can at least start with manager or senior manager in strategy or consulting.

Should have went to different big4 or mid size.

Why do recruiters never tell you which agency they want to talk to you about until they get you on the phone? I don’t want to waste anyone’s time and it would be helpful to know this info from the initial outreach. My experience with this only applies to healthcare, but would imagine it’s the same in consumer as well. Anyone?

Do you feel like turnover has now diminished after this busy season or will it kick up again as we approach the next one?

At this point, I'm wondering if most firms have hired enough people or they are still on the lookout due to shortage.

I know I'm in the minority here (and I swear this isn't a brag) but is anyone else less stressed this busy season working from home, and finding issues focusing because of it? My work is getting done, but just very very slowly.
