It will happen whenever they feel they have enough paperwork to get rid of you. I think they typically need until the end. I recently went through this crappy process and it felt like business as usual until my end date was approaching and I didn’t have any particularly bad snapshots. I thought I had a good shot of surviving until they started giving reasons why good feedback didn’t count (easy project, manager was too nice blah blah). Towards the end they put me on a project with someone notoriously difficult to work with who gives harsh reviews and started badgering me to submit snapshots before I had done any substantive work on the project. By the time I did submit the snapshot that sunk me I knew what was coming. I don’t know whether I would have preferred this to a layoff. On the one hand I bought some time, continued to get paid and ended up getting another job without having too much of a gap. On the other hand it was psychological torture and I find myself doubting my abilities more now. I hope to get over it in time and push through it. It felt like they were trying to force me into a career change so they didn’t have to admit they were cost cutting.
Holy shit was this EY?
I believe anyone can be fired at any point, but generally with a PIP you have until the end of the timeframe. That being said, start applying.
That’s exactly what I’d say if I was on a PIP as well. Best of luck
Typically at the end. Most of the time the PIP timeframe is needed so the company can prove it put forth a good faith effort to address the employee’s issues without legal concerns
Generally we are all at will employees - you could be fired whenever, regardless. PiPs are most often a way to set an end date and cover bases to terminate someone. You can certainly com back from a pip but it’s not the outcome I’ve seen most often.

It will happen at night. It will be a night like any other. You’ll finish up dinner and put your plate in the sink and the phone will ring. Or maybe you’ll be walking the dog and a meeting invite dings in your pocket. I would tell you to find a safe place, but are any of us really safe?
Rising Star
While typically at the end, you could be fired for some reason not related to the PIP, such as harassment.
Think of a PIP as a window of opportunity for you to jump somewhere else
How long are PIP timelines generally and what might cause one to be triggered? A complaint by the manager/someone on your team (assuming decent feedback)? New hire here so just curious
Either a massive screwup where your level or experience should have absolutely prevented you from doing whatever or consistent low marks without progress in a positive direction, typically. Could also be a culture/fit thing....could be so many things. Most often a pip is for consistently performing under-level, in my experience.
Timelines are all over - 1-3 months, could be like a week.
