Anyone considering a move to MBB
Bain & Company Atlanta people! I’m in the process of applying for MBA programs and wanted to ask what recruiting is like for MBB from Emorys program? Is there a reasonable shot at getting into the Atlanta office from Emory, or are those openings primarily filled by other schools (Duke, UVA, etc.)

1) it’s a lot higher than 10-20%…that’s roughly the range of acceptance rates for the general applicant pool at these schools, so that’s obviously wrong
2) PE / VC (at a good shop, not random family office of 7 employees) is harder to get into than MBB and much more interesting (fewer investors applying than generic consultants). MF PE is basically a ticket to HSW.

Only 10-20 % get into one of three HSW? I thought it’d be 50%. And LMM/MM PE/VC candidates definitely don’t all get into HSW, most probably don’t.
I’m not actually sure if this is true, I feel MBB applicants almost have a better shot , or at least equal shots. So many very qualified PE assocs want b school , but the equally qualified MBB ones don’t necessarily

Not sure where you’re getting these numbers from but in our Bain office we were shown numbers which suggested nearly 50-70% of people applying to HSW get into at least one of them. I imagine the % getting interviews then is even higher. As McK1 points out correctly, % LMM/MM PE/VC getting into HSW is not nearly as high as “almost all getting in”.
Which bain office are you in?
I would assume the size of the applicant pool plays into this. There are likely a lot more MBB applicants than PE/VC applicants
most mega funds and top mm funds have strong ties to H/S and associates there will almost always get in if their grades and scores are about average (unless there are just too many associates applying that year). the fund will have a partner or an MD who’s an alum and big donor and will go to bat for them
Plus self selection,
A lot of the PE/VC don't even bother going unless it's HSW.
