Why are we not hearing layoffs from other product orgs (Siemens, Amadeus, Wells Fargo, Attlassian, Nvidea, SAP, VMWARE etc) than FAANG's and ofcourse Microsoft.

Have you been fired before even starting your new job?

I signed for a new job two months ago and will start next month (3 mo notice period in Europe). They were very keen on getting me on-board ASAP before signing but since I signed the contract it has been silent from the new employee. I've emailed them with questions as I'll be re-locating to NL and it takes them 1-2 weeks to reply. Given all that's going on in the world, I'm worried they might fire me before I even start.

How am I expected to bill 1900 hours when I only have 8 cases and when I ask for work no one responds. I even asked the partner in person for work and he said he was slow and didn’t have anything for me.This month I’ve only billed 80 hrs. I have chronic health issues and I’m severely depressed. I can’t even get myself to work anymore. If I don’t quit, I’m in serious danger of being fired. I feel that I need to just quit and take time off to get better but feel that it will be a stain on my career. I’m a pretty junior lawyer. Any advice. I just can’t do any work at all and I’m my anxiety and depression is spiraling out of control. I see a therapist I try to cope and it’s not working.

After 6 years of temporary contracts and unstable situations, I find my dream job in my dream company. All of a sudden the world goes upside down and I get laid off. I start sending hundreds of applications, with only 2 recruiters getting back to me to say I don’t have experience for the job (this is how it works in Italy). Considering an offer to go from firm (4 YOE) to become a privacy/product counsel for a tech company (non-faang). One concern for me is the potential of a recession in late 22 into 23 with the fed rate hikes. My fear is if that happens, me being on the chopping block as new in house counsel. If I stayed at the firm, I feel reasonably secure as an associate of not being laid off due to the market. How do in house counsel positions typically fare during lay off cycles?
