Mine don’t. I think you need better colleagues.
Sounds like you have some toxic colleagues
I really hate that for you. This industry is tough enough without coworkers making you feel bad for taking a break (that usually kinda isn’t a break)
I’ve never had my PTO questioned
That’s how I felt when I was at WPP…
So toxic 🥲
It’s a thing. Every time I’ve gone on a trip, my colleagues have been like “oh, you went to xyz? Must be nice. Wish we could all do that.” You literally can?
those who mind don’t matter. those who matter don’t mind.
Because capitalism 🫠
That’s odd. Are you taking PTO more frequently than the rest of the team?
I’ve definitely taken the most, but I have time left to use and am awaiting on approval for my last few days so I can plan the EOY travels. I use the exact amount given to me 🤷♀️
Some people are terrible at handing off their projects and just leave things chaotic, this is sometimes what I think makes people resentful. However, if a proper handoff has been had they ain’t got nothing to complain about!
My boss tries to guilt -trip me about 75% of the time.
You assigned work to people who were on PTO?
Sure because she worked during the days that she was on schedule, and she was off during the days that she had scheduled PTO. She had scheduled PTO every other Thursday and Friday for an 8-week stretch. It was approved and it was all good. So she continued to work 8 days out of 10, so of course she had a workload but we did not schedule her to be part of anything that infringed upon her scheduled days off.
PTO doesn’t stand for part time off…
In our company it stood for paid time off. The days under this designation had to be used each year or they were forfeited. Vacation days were designated differently, those could accrue year after year so you could combine the unused days, within some limits that I don't recall.
I've never tried to make a colleague feel bad for taking PTO. However I did learn to assess the PTO scheduling --by just looking down the relevant calendar -- when deciding how to delegate and assign workloads. During a particularly busy time, I would assign to those who had scheduled time off only the workload I was confident they could accomplish without infringing upon the scheduled time off. If that rubbed anyone the wrong way, it was not intended to do so. It just seemed foolish to me to hand someone a full-time workload if they were scheduled to be part-time across a relevant period.
No, they're saying they assigned work to people who had time off *coming up* only to the extent they thought they could accomplish it before their PTO kicked in.
I have never had colleagues make me feel bad about vacation. The only one making me feel bad is me
Any team that gives you shit for taking PTO is not a team worth being on.
