Why I am seeing multiple real estate practice groups very top and bottom heavy with very few mid level associates? Lots of partners and counsel and juniors. I’m a 2L summer and trying to figure out which practice group to join and while I want real estate the firm I’m at doesn’t seem to keep anyone long term.

HR opinion: Do I have any leverage as a hospital nurse case manager in negotiating earned time? I have 15 years within the organization, left for 10 months to be remote during the pandemic while sorting out childcare as immunocompromised family helped. Now HR is restarting my ET as a new employee. I realize I left, but not on bad terms and I am an exemplar and respected employee. I see a therapist, and a psychiatrist, and am on medication, but I still have days where I wake up and I’m so depressed I can’t move. I’m working on remedying this with my doctors, but how does one approach mental health issues with their employer? I never felt the need to until I realized how much being bipolar can affect my ability to work.

I’m a non-TX immigration attorney mentoring a UT student who went to my undergrad. He’s done incredibly well in OCI and pre-OCI. Thus far, he’s landed interviews with (all in Houston): Baker Botts, Sidley Austin, Kirkland, Winston Strawn, Reed Smith, Norton Rose, and Locke Lord. Also Perkins Coie in Dallas. So the question has been asked a few times in the main Big Law bowl but keeps getting derailed into a political issue. As someone with a more conservative disposition anyway I'm interested in the day to day of life and work in Texas as opposed to NYC (or similar).

So, what are the pros and cons of living in Texas and working in Texas Biglaw?
