Pensions are dying because the older gen of partners are not.
Because they have a pension to fund
We had a pension until recently, but it was replaced with a 4% fixed contribution to 401k. I’d say pensions are a dying breed these days
Eh. I was at D for 3.5 years. Pension was worth 4K at the end. A 401k match from the start would have been much more lucrativd
I’d much rather have the 401(k) match myself
The pension is actually not bad. If you are at Deloitte for only a few years, not great, but if you are there long term, it starts adding up much more than other 401k matches. Incentive to stay at Deloitte...
Pension is worthless unless you make partner or ED
@K1 we can do mega backdoor IRAs though
In some ways D pension is better than 401k. If the market tanks after retirement, you’re locked-in at your monthly amount. Also lasts until you die, even if you live to be 110.
Is pension unusual for other similar firms?
The investment choices in all 401k are shit, tried doing an in service non hardship withdrawal to back fund my Roth IRA but couldn't due to the age requirement.
KPMG1 really? I have the option to invest in a very low-fee (I want to say 0.01%, but definitely under 0.05%) index fund, which I don’t think is atypical at other firms, and has an excellent expected return over the long term. Are you looking for single name exposure? Alternative asset classes?
To pay for my PMD pension
I have 6 years in and it’s around $50k.
Pension vesting takes longer than it used to but adds up if you stay for the long haul.
