Starting a new job at Applied Materials on Monday as a Manufacturing Engineer III. I’ve been out of college for 5 years and all of my work experience till now has been in R&D for start ups and small businesses . So not only is this a new experience for me going into such a large company but also a industry (semiconductors). Does anybody has tips or advices on what I should expect as a new hire and how I can set myself up for success? Thanks!

Toronto ad fish 🤠 I’ve spent most of my career working as a copywriter in London (6 years here, 2 years Toronto) and the market is pretty different here. I’m planning on moving back home but wondered….how do you find work in Toronto? Agencies barely post openings, is the recruiter scene strong? Is it mostly who you know?

My SO worked at Guidehouse and left because they had never been so unhappy. Their medical benefits are very sub standard and a lot of people we know that work there are very unhappy with the leadership. There are many fantastic people that work at Guidehouse, brilliant, well educated, lovely people.

Agreed! Health insurance is crappy

We generally pay at the high end of the market unless you’re highly technical and can leverage at Booz, etc. We do have a few operational challenges given a carve out and a merger within the last few years. Also, the minority of grumbling employees who’ve got too much time on their hands tend to be quite vocal on FB.
Depends on your YOE and what you can be billed at. The top end of senior is 140ish excluding some marginal cases.
Lol at D responses.
OP just like any federal consultancy there’s gonna be a lower level of work on certain contracts to build a revenue base. That’s just how it works. But there are a number of significant projects that have high impact. Just have to know what you’re stepping into.
I used to work at Guidehouse. The best partners and people have left. All the remaining good people are also trying to leave.

I’d say it depends on the practice. I’m in State and Local and it’s great. More of a commercial tempo than Federal, and interesting projects too - including on strategies for cities, climate, economic growth which are interesting to me. There has been a lot of growth in COVID work which can be a little mundane but the big picture of what we’re working towards is rewarding.
Comp is good but benefits are uncompetitive - I guess Veritas don’t want lots of illiquid liabilities like 401ks when they eventually sell us off in a few years.
Thanks guys - I would want to do commercial work if possible and my background is FSI consulting, so good to hear that the FSI group is strong
Anybody know about the federal healthcare practice?
