I’ve been in GPS my entire career. Started as a campus hire. Great experience and wouldnt leave (and haven’t left) for more money despite many offers.
Not blaming you SM1 but Deloitte will do everything except “pay” it forward lol
I was there for two years coming in as exp hire. Thought that it would be a great place to propel my career, which it was - learned a ton while there. But it’s just not sustainable to have a life outside of Deloitte and the pay was not enough to substantiate the long hours.
Left for a smaller consulting firm and working 20 hours less a week with larger pay. It’s a good stepping stone but it’s a sweatshop and always will be.
Imagine being at a company that fired 10% if it’s workforce (5000 people) and also cut bonuses by 75% and froze raises.
Now imagine that same company a few months later saying “we’re so busy. We hired 14000 people, all of whom now make more than you do because we froze raises. And many of whom were the rejects of the other firms because those are the only people we could get and we are desperate. And by the way, we don’t plan on adjusting your salaries”.
And your competitors didn’t make those same choices. Would you want to stay or go to a competitor?
That’s why I left for McKinsey. If I had known I was qualified for McKinsey, I would have left anyway. But I didn’t shoot my shot until this happened
Also, Deloitte is much more bonus driven than competitors. As a Consultant (2 years out of school), my bonus was 14k. SCs can make 35k+ at the top end.
So a 50% % cut in bonus is very significant for us. Because our base was garbage. Not to mention Covid didn’t impact our previous performance year. So the cut was all precautionary and not even the same timeframe it was supposed to be on. (Bonuses are backwards. Raises are forwards facing)
I’ve had a great few years here in GPS but as a campus hire the pay is garbage
As an experienced hire, the pay is also garbage.
There's are basically three kinds of responses to this stuff:
1) Deloitte lifers who think things are great
2) New hires who think things are great
3) Grizzled employees who have been around for sometime between 2 and 10 years and will tell you that there is some good stuff but an awful lot of bad.
Most 1s I know have been moving on lately ..
Commercial consulting. Lots of noise on this app. You’ll be fine, congrats on the offer!
I love it and dont regret my experience at all! People mostly come here to rant
Deloitte Canada pays much lower than their peers for most roles and this problem compounds over time if you are promoted internally
Experienced hires struggle to find their crew. Extremely political, people are overworked, and company is big enough that they just don’t care about you. I learned a ton working there, but will never go back.
I’ve really enjoyed my time at Deloitte but I’m getting literally a 100% comp increase by going to tech...
D7 are you me? Signed an offer this week
The horror stories on fishbowl tbh were enough to make me turn down deloitte...
At the end of the day, the company is big so everyone will have different experiences.
I honestly didn't choose deloitte cause of poor wlb and culture. I was trying to look for a more supportive firm after frustration with my current company
My friend enjoys it and makes good money in Atl office. It’s going to be impressive on a resume too. Congrats!
Manti Te'o?
Just be careful of overextending yourself on internal firm initiatives. I think that’s what burns people out, not the client work
Good or bad, the real question I would ask is would you encourage your child to work at Deloitte if they had other opportunities?
My personal answer is no, there are so many companies that would treat you and pay you better, why you limiting yourself to Detoilet?
I just joined this week so too early to tell.. but everyone’s been nice if that’s worth anything lol
I am planning to join their cyber practice as a SC These questions are scaring me!!
Left ACN to join D a few weeks ago for a 50% bump(was horridly underpaid at ACN as a fresh grad). So far everyone seems pretty nice and friendly. Might be too early to tell.
Pro
Happens the other way around too. Everyone who stays put is eventually underpaid in a hot market like this. No company on the planet levels up it’s internal comp as much as they pay market for new hires.
Everyone has to graduate from Harvard at some point...
In the same boat OP. Please say something encouraging D people!!!
