London has a terrific food scene, mild weather, and is safer than most places I've been. It's also a great travel hub.
It might not make financial sense for most people, but the same could be said for most tier 1 cities.
I’ve flown out of Heathrow 5 times in the last month and security never took more than 15 min 🤷🏻♂️
In addition to VP1s points: The history and the polite people are a biiiig plus!
Also, I wouldn’t say anyone was particularly rude or anything of the sort. I guess all I meant by my initial comment was their politeness isn’t that “biiig” of a plus IMO. Or maybe it’s just me lol
Great city nonetheless!
Loved in London for 3 years. Would have stayed if I didn’t need a visa (Canada and Australia get preferential citizenship visas, the US does not. I see how it is).
In London, you have all of the benefits of a NYC tier city, with the plus of any European destination being a cheap flight or train away. Plus, it’s a hub for the rest of the world. The people are kind - they just won’t smile all over you like midwesterners will. London is the best city in the world.
Sure, which is something to consider. I now get calls back from companies who are willing to pay up, but while there, you don’t have a lot of leverage.
I don’t get it either.
Weather sucks, the British are not known to be warm hearted and you get much better food in other countries on the continent. Not sure what BCG1 means with history - maybe the British Empire that exploited half of the world? ;)
As for safety...not anymore.
I do like the Queen though.
Yes that is true, it will take a while so ask me again in a few months and I should be able to comment better 😉
Have you been to London outside of work by chance?
I just got back from London and Paris. Felt safer in London.
London had a great food scene, the weather wasn’t bad, except for one day and it only rained half a day. Transport was good. The only weird time were protestors around town representing Syria/Kurds thing going on.
I’m on a long term project in London and love it. But I don’t have to deal with the pay / COL aspects, not sure I would move here
