Deloitte experienced hires, who all received written offers and in process of visa/ onboarding, have you heard back anything about hiring freeze? Or recruiter asked you to delay joining date?
My visa got submitted couple of days back and waiting for decision. When I reached out to recruiter to give her an update and mentioned once there’s decision will discuss on the start date before putting my 2 weeks, she mentioned “Yes, we should talk before you put notice” - Am I overthinking? Rising Star
I imagine GT (outside Miami), Akerman, BakerHostetler, Squire, and other non-market biglaw firms are feeling the heat to raise. I’d say that feeling is driven more by the flood of new Cravath scale-paying firms in Miami than Foley’s move though. That said, the presence of Foley and HK across smaller FL markets certainly encourages raises in those markets.
Idk if the regional firms will push higher at this point given most others have already implemented adjustments recently and many are worried about an economic downturn (see, e.g., daily fishbowl posts worried about layoffs). But that dollar isn’t worth what it used to be and we’ve all gotta buy groceries!
I think with the current economic uncertainty, no.
But once the economy roars back to life they will have no choice.
I’m curious to see how the shakeup shakes out. Big firms are stealing partners from the Florida firms (see, K&S taking Akerman litigators) but I’m just not sure at the end of the day they’re servicing the same clients. Back in 2006 this went down and when the economy tanked all the big boys folded up and the Florida firms remained.
Yeah, I’m curious about the regional and local firms too. The Hill Ward Hendersons and the Lowndeses and the like are priced out of getting quality associates at those outlets rates. Particularly since they can’t feed their lawyers NYC work and charge closer to NYC rates for it as a result.
Yeah, I am reluctant to say that any other firm would have the guts to do a Florida-wide raise. At most, I would say H&K. Even then, I doubt that either H&K or Foley would pay market bonuses. A raise (not to market) from Baker & Hostetler may be on the horizon.
We can discard Akerman, Nelson Mullins, and every firm below them in the AmLaw rankings.
