Wondering why do you guys like pharma and biotech consulting? I’m applying to a firm and I’m interested in the industry as a whole but trying to gauge from the community what is the part you enjoy

It’s an incredibly complex industry so there’s always more to learn. I also like that clients are generally pretty sharp (compared to many other industries) and you get to learn a lot about different disease states and treatments.

Not to say there aren’t downsides either.

like

Agree that many of the clients are smart. Also like that they are striving to save lives

likefunny

Clients are smart and at least you are doing something to help patients - hard to get excited about telecom but health affects everyone. Also, industry always growing and changing. Pharma pays better than many industries...

like

I like that there’s an underlying science component to it. We do more than just help companies make more money

like

ZS1 had great points. Also:
1) It's very global (so nice travel experiences)
2) Client products can be life changing for patients - I've had projects where we interacted directly with physicians and patients which was just incredible
3) I feel like I'm able to do a bit of 'good' in the world while consulting. Helping products get to market faster, helping new drugs get to patients more efficiently, developing better support programs for patients, etc...
4) Just about everyone has an opinion on healthcare in the U.S., so it's nice to have an inside perspective
5) People are super smart and will change you (almost everyone has a masters, PhD, or MD from a top uniniversity)
Just my two cents.....

like

I don’t *like* it but I’ve worked in this industry for 10 years and it’s hard to find something outside of pharma / biotech

ZS1 do you mind if I DM you? I have a few questions if you don’t mind

Sure go for it

Agree w ZS1. Always something new to learn no matter if you’ve done a similar project before

Our nurse has an email group of our states school nurses that she can bounce ideas off, or ask questions etc. Is there anything like that for secretaries? Teachers are keen to share how they handle things in their classrooms, but every school does attendance, has messages that need to be relayed thru the day, all these things going on, I just always wonder how it's handled elsewhere. I took this position two years ago and I don't like "This is just how it's always been done".

I can manage my classroom better if I don’t respond to emails outside of office hours. This gives my mind a break and by consequence refreshes me for the next day. It also sets a boundary.
