Personally, I find remote helps a lot. Still stressful and crazy at times. But at least I’m able to be around.
Poor to quite poor
Feel ya
Wouldn’t be as bad if we didn’t also have sick, aging parents to take care of at the same time.
Working in an industry where even other parents aren't respectful of the boundaries we need to properly show up for our kids? Yeah, it's not great.
Hear this. Sometimes I can’t help but feel (a bit cynically, I admit) that the culture of the ad business regards employees with kids as a little bit of a liability. I’d be interested in seeing data on the ratio of ad industry employees that have kids vs. those that don’t, and comparing that with other industries. I’ve suspected for some time that fewer people in this industry than in others, on balance, have kids. If that’s true, I wonder what the drivers are — is it the hours, is it the hours + the pay level, or the hours + the pay level + the relative job insecurity, or what else.
It’s awful. I was always worried about this, even in my 20s when I didnt have kids. I’m constantly trying to balance succeeding at work and motherhood.
Agree with ACD3, becoming remote after the pandemic changed the game. Prior to that, it felt like I was always having to “explain myself” for being an attentive parent.
I didn’t have a kid before the pandemic, and honestly, I have no idea how I would have done it. Props to you!
Better since moving abroad. I make less $ but I see my kids a lot more.

It's painful, especially when the higher-ups at the office don't have kids. They don't/can't relate to the parental responsibilities and cognitive load that you have on your plate.
Or they have kids but have full-time nannies so don’t get it.
Do you think this industry is particularly inhospitable to parents vs. other industries?
Agencies biggest nightmare are employees with kids. They can’t/won’t pay for health insurance for an entire family
It only feels possible because my wife isn’t working right now (well, she’s not employed, she’s definitely working 😵💫). I guess if we were both working we would have to have a nanny or something because we have no family nearby. But basically she would just be working to pay the nanny’s salary and she wasn’t THAT passionate about her job to make that arrangement make sense. Hoping it gets more manageable when the kids are a little older. Two incomes would definitely be nice again.
