Industry vets - in your experience how recession proof is insurance? I was not yet in the job market last recession but I watched my mom get laid off and struggle to find employment during that time for the next 1.5 years. I was wanting to hit the job market towards the end of this year, but now I worry that if I do move companies, the recession could put me in position of last one hired first one fired. But, ultimately chose Bain for the culture despite McKinsey being aligned with my professional goals of working in the government. I recently switched job and joined another B4 firm. As part of the hiring I was promised with a sign on bonus. Now I have received the sign on bonus twice, in back to back paychecks. I know I have to somehow return the second bonus to the firm. Does anyone know how taxes work on this? As both the bonuses were tax deducted prior to deposit, when I return amount do I need to pay back the withheld taxes to the firm as well? Asking as the amount is big and don’t want to go in the IRS route. TIA.
