Salary credit timings? Icici bank
Hi fishes,
I am planning a switch so was going through some salary data for a software engineer. My ex-senior manager recommended me a website: Growceed.com which helped me a lot in getting clarification about a lot of things but I am in doubt whether the average salaries of software engineer mentioned on Growceed.com really that much in top MNC companies.

As long as it’s LCOL and has a good hospital and decent food.

I would live in a cave in Pakistan for that.

It’s a short commute
Hi McK no I would only live in prestigious cities
And 60 hour weeks too.
750k-1M comp with decent WLB? Is it a job as a trust fund kid? Yeah, I’d jump at that, I’d work in hell for a couple years at that comp.
My friend has 100 acres in rural Alabama, and it's fun every time I visit. I'd be happy making $1M and riding dirt bikes than living in a shoebox in a HCOL metro.

Except for BBQ, the South can be that way too. We were super fortunate that Frank Stitt moved to Birmingham decades ago and changed EVERYTHING in our food culture. Example, I worked remotely in Jacksonville FL (MSA 1.7 million so about 50% bigger than Birmingham) for a couple of years and food, generally speaking, was very meh.
People who asks these questions are either day dreaming or are extremely poor with basic finances.
You people clearly have too much time on your hands. Get a real job.

If you are making that much scratch you could probably invest in the town and make it less mediocre.

I had a friend that lived in Atlanta and commuted to the NE area when he owned his company as a niche manufacturer(100% ownership). He sold the company to a large manufacturer for $140 million in cash and stock. He was paid $600,000 a year and RSU (TC over $1m) to help transition his factories and engineering to the new owners. He immediately sold his home in Atlanta and bought a ranch in Wyoming and several supercars. Then he bought another ranch in Montana and a small Cessna (or similar) to commute between the two ranches and to go to the major airport to fly to NE. He’s the happiest man I know. He hates big cities and now that he’s fully divested from his old endeavors, he just enjoys life away from other people. Getting paid to not live in a big city is the dream for me and almost everyone I know.
there is a good reason people move to the burbs once you settle down. City life is great of you are young but overrated once you get to say 35. These days there is internet everywhere and amazon delivers anywhere. Bring on the town life.
OP is trolling
Has to be
I live in Southern California and work in DTLA but live about 1-1.5 hours from the office. The slower pace outside the big city is something you quickly start appreciating. If that’s not enough, the freedom you get from not being stack on top of everyone else, the amount of personal space you get to live how you want to live, the lack of homeless people, filth, ability to spread out, so many advantages. Also means I have less access to unique and authentic places to eat, roof top bars, nightlife. It’s refreshing to go into the office and have access to so much around me but by the time the day is over I’m very happy to go back to my cave. I wouldn’t trade what I have now for life in a big city. Everything about it is more expensive and the cost is not worth what you get in return.

Joshua Tree, Palm Springs, mountains and beach all within an hour’s drive. Vegas is 3 hours away too
I'd rather live in a mediocre non-metro than many of the "prestigious" metros, and I've lived in "prestigious" metros for 30+ years. 🤷
Don't underestimate the power of boring

Don’t underestimate the power of money to alleviate boredom
Unpopular opinion - but no.
The whole value of having high comp is being able to live where and how you want to live with few compromises - location matters a lot in terms of friends, family, schools etc. all depends on how mediocre of course but I would not move my kids to a “mediocre” city - that is going to be ‘home’ for the rest of their lives
I guess - if I want a private tutor - why don’t I live where I want and hire one vs live where I don’t and hire one?
Private tutors and boarding school is not a replacement for living where you want…
No! I'd rather live with half the pay and twice the working hours in a medicore metro
What's aroubd said city? Can you drive to something better in under 2 hours? Is the food decent? Is the hospital system good? Are public school ranked well?
Yes to half of those would have me go
What stage of life are you at? If you are still looking to meet someone and moving there makes it difficult then no.
That’s what dating apps are for
As long as there’s an airport, you can travel a ton on that salary.
For a $1m a year in a LCOL, I could import fun

I’m waiting for the punchline where the mediocre non-metro area is like San Diego or New Haven vs us thinking of Cheyenne WY or Pierre SD.
Nah it’s those type of non-metros. San Diego would be a dream lol
If the money and WLB is there, I could live anywhere and travel on weekends to any nicer city. So the answer is hell yeah
